Overview of the Trilateral Journalist Exchange Program Seminar

The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) initiated the Trilateral Journalist Exchange Program (TJEP) since 2014 to provide opportunities for mutual exchange and understanding among journalists of China, Japan, and the ROK. The theme of TJEP 2021 is “New Changes and New Trends in CJK Media.” Journalists from the three countries will discuss topics including the pandemic’s effects on journalism, digital transformation in media business, and the TCS’ role in promoting trilateral media cooperation.

1. Discussion topics:

*Pandemic’s effects on journalism: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many journalists and newsrooms globally. Whether it's burnout from working extra hours, layoffs at a local news publication, or misinformation spreading in social media, the health crisis have placed extra pressure on an industry already facing an uncertain future. How has the pandemic affects the CJK media?

*Digital transformation in Media Business: Technical developments, especially smartphone technologies, the spread of social networks, easy Internet access and its low cost, are elements that together caused profound changes in the behavior of readers and viewers, exemplified by the massive migration of traditional journalism to digital spaces. Digital transformation has a significant impact on employment, creating demand for some highly skilled digital roles. How CJK media respond to digital transformation?

*Change and trend: What are the challenges they are facing? How is it going to change their work in the near future?

*TCS’role: what is TCS’ role in promoting trilateral media cooperation?
